The City of Methuen was originally organized as a town in 1725, Governor Dummer signed the act establishing the Town of Methuen, naming it after Sir Paul Methuen, a friend of the Governor’s and member of the King’s Privy Council. 

Industrial growth in the 1800’s influenced Methuen’s development. Construction of the Methuen Cotton Mills at Spicket River falls in the 1820’s and the increased manufacturing of hats and shoes in small factories along the Spicket River spurred the centralization of Methuen’s economic, residential and cultural activities within the area around Osgood, Broadway, Hampshire and Pleasant Streets. Today, Methuen is seen as a quiet, family community. With established, tree-lined neighborhoods that are close to stores, markets, restaurants, a gym and the movie theaters nearby.

Three wealthy families -- the Nevins, the Tenney and the Searles played a significant role in Methuen’s history and how the town still looks and runs today. Thanks to those families, the City boasts some of its finest landmarks and SERVPRO is honored to keep their history shining bright by restoring water or fire damaged buildings. 

Some features points of interest are:

  • Methuen City Hall - Originally designed as the Searles High School in 1904 for the Town of Methuen by local millionaire and community benefactor Edward F. Searles.
  • Forest Lake is a recreational great pond of over 55 acres.
  • Methuen Water Works, Cross Street, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places
  • Methuen Memorial Music Hall was built specifically to house the Great Organ, built originally by Walcker Orgelbau for the Boston Music Hall.
  • The Methuen Rail Trail occupies the railbanked Boston and Maine Manchester and Lawrence Railroad corridor. 
  • The Nevins Memorial Library, the grand brick and stained glass library were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Several years ago, I hired Servpro to do a deep cleaning for a relative's home in Atkinson, NH. Servpro did a fabulous job at that time. About a month ago, this same relative's home needed major mold remediation due to an unchecked water leak issue through the spring. I hired Servpro again, and I can’t say enough about their professionalism, the thoroughness of the job completed, and the extent to which they went above and beyond in their performance. Their pricing was also reasonable. It turned out that the problem was more extensive than first thought due to pegboard covering the walls, which had hidden the extent of the problem.
